A pavilion becomes a museum

In Parc de la Boverie, a building from Liège's 1905 World Exhibition now houses an art museum and major exhibitions. La Boverie opened in 2016 after renovation involving Liège practice p.HD and Rudy Ricciotti, designer of the contemporary extension. The encounter between older construction and new intervention already belongs to the visit. Fine-art collections provide a permanent thread, while temporary exhibitions offer other perspectives. The park between Meuse and Dérivation is a particularly pleasant setting for extending the experience.

A name from an older landscape

Boverie recalls a use predating exhibitions: cattle once grazed in this rural area. The detail is documented by Wallonia's heritage portal. It changes how you look at the park: behind avenues, museum and urban walks lies another landscape. Seek what still suggests open breathing space amid the city. This history of the name complements the artworks without reducing the garden to a waiting area.

Combining museum and walk

Check the official La Boverie website for programme, visiting conditions and access to collections and exhibitions. Plan according to how you want to look rather than rushing from room to room. Liège-Guillemins station provides a rail arrival; continue towards the park by the pedestrian crossing over the Meuse. Check an accessible route if needed. Leave time for an outdoor break and returning to your train: the place's interest also lies in this gentle transition between art, water and walking.
