The Musée du Doudou, entering Mons' celebration
A museum explaining the Car d'Or, Saint George and the Dragon, before recognising their traces in Mons' streets.

A living tradition enters the museum
Opened in April 2015, the Musée du Doudou explains Mons' ritual Ducasse throughout the year. A place devoted to this heritage took shape after UNESCO recognition in 2005, with ten years between impetus and opening. The museum occupies the former Mont-de-Piété near the Jardin du Mayeur. Objects, documents, films and interactive displays recount processions, transmission, characters and collective participation.
A legend, objects and a very real city
Saint George's battle with the Dragon belongs to legend: the museum relates it to the celebration's history and practices. The symbolic account should not be confused with a literal historical event. The City of Mons also recalls an exceptional procession in 1349 during an epidemic, a stage in local traditions. Objects highlighted today include lance, teeth, medallions and dragon representations. Their interest comes from associated actions and roles, beyond a souvenir display.
Practical visiting and arrival by rail
The official Musée du Doudou listing gives tickets, calendar and visiting arrangements. Consult your preferred language before booking a guided activity. The museum explains the celebration; it does not replace the annual Doudou programme, whose dates and access should be checked separately. Mons SNCB station is nearby. Walk to the old centre, then Jardin du Mayeur or the museum's specified entrance. Allow for uphill streets. Historic Mont-de-Piété photographs show the building before the museum opened, as their captions state.
